Pedagogical Basis: The needs of today's learners are evolving due to dramatic advances in technology and a growing emphasis on global collaboration. As a result, there is increased interest in evaluating educational pedagogies and ways of learning. Particularly, researchers in education are assessing current best practices in design and implementation of collaborative forms of learning. Teachers are shifting lessons from content-based instruction that focuses on product and assessment to practices that prioritize process, creation, and global impact. By asking students to seek solutions to problems of global significance through the development of essential questions, educators and programs can encourage students to engage in deep learning through a process of inquiry and investigation. Meaningful topics with profound disciplinary and interdisciplinary basis can provide opportunities for students to think critically and thoughtfully. Learners can utilize multimodal literacies to examine problems, gather information, and communicate decisions. Through this process of inquiry, teachers and students can utilize digital technologies and move meaningfully along a continuum of technology integration and work to together make a positive impact on the world. The creation of digital artifacts can offer transparency of perspectives and sharing of solutions, and, ultimately, the learning can inspire change that is relevant and significant. Dedication of time and thought for discussion can place focus on metacognitive thinking and reflection and together, educators and students can redefine instructional practices to inspire collective change on their quests to together make a difference in classrooms of today and of the future.
