Invitation to Join
We are inviting K-5 classrooms interested in meeting and sharing with a professional app creator to sign-up for a session. The session will take place within Google Hangouts, and may be recorded and broadcast live through Periscope.
During the 20-minute session, the students will interact with one of the programmers of the Monster Math app by Makkajai, in India. The agenda will include introductions, a coding and animation creation demo, and Q&A. In order to correlate future work experience with current student lessons, the activity will take place on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, during the 2016 Computer Science Education Week, as well as the designated and celebrated "Hour of Code" global movement. We hope you all can join us!
Before Our Interaction
We suggest you complete the following Coding activities:
Online Courses on CODE STUDIO: https://studio.code.org/
Try a one-hour tutorial & celebrate the Hour of Code: https://code.org/learn
Or try an unplugged activity using paper, markers & a stack of 10 plastic cups: https://csedweek.org/unplugged/thinkersmith
To find many more activities, please visit: https://code.org/
We also suggest you play a version of Monster Math, so the programmers can ask YOU THE STUDENTS questions! Watch for favorite characters, best animations, funniest animations, and scenes that could be improved.
Please have the teacher or students add questions to the Dotstorming queue above, so that the programmers can prepare ahead of time for Q&A time.
Please give students two post-it notes, on which to write ideas during the GHO session.
In-Person Interaction with Mrs. Oakhill's 4th grade class- 12/02/16
Virtual Interaction between Deep Shah and Mr. Cannone's 6th grade and another 3rd grade class - 12/6/16 (Ontario, Canada & Mangalore, India)
Virtual Interaction between Roopesh Shenoy and Mrs. Druffel's 5th grade class - 12/6/16 (Spokane, Washington, USA & Mangalore, India)
After our interaction, provide student feedback to our Makkajai team using the Post-its and the Post-It Plus app. This way, we can easily capture the students' notes, organize them, and then share them with the team. We truly believe in the power of ideation and empathy design-thinking practices!
Additionally, students can apply "Creative Communicator" ISTE Standard (Students communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively by creating or using a variety of digital objects such as visualizations, models or simulations) by sharing their learning with others using Buncee, Flipgrid, & Padlet!
